Our Christian Distinctiveness

St. Mary's C.E. (A) Primary School is a Church of England school with a distinctive Christian foundation.

St. Mary’s School has been serving the local community since 1884 when parishioners of St Mary's Church founded the school. Generation after generation of children have walked through the doors of our school. They learnt here, made friends here, made mistakes here, discovered things here, helped one another and grew here.

Our Christian Vision is rooted in this rich history that makes St. Mary's such a special school. It is not limited to worship, religious education or particular moments in the school week. It shapes our relationships, decisions and the ambitions we hold for everyone in our community - following in the footsteps of those before us.

We welcome children and families of all faiths and denominations and those of none. Every member of our community is valued, included and invited to explore questions of faith, meaning and identity and purpose.

Church of England schools are intended to be deeply Christian while serving the common good - helping children flourish regardless of background or starting point.

Our motto:

Our vision is rooted in the Bible:

Love connects everyone within our school community and includes love for ourselves, love for each other, love of learning and curiosity, and love for our local and global community throughout God's world.

We put this into practice every day by building supportive relationships, celebrating each other's achievements, and creating a safe environment where everyone is treated with dignity and compassion.
